Ask
around. Do you know anyone that has used
a designer before? Who have they used? And more importantly
do you like their work?
|
| 2. |
There
are thousands of ebook covers on the internet now,
and a lot of them have been created by a designer.
Have a look around. Do you like any of them? Find
out who designed that fantastic virtual cover. Most
webmasters don’t mind sharing their information
about who designed their ebook covers. Hey, its flattery
and we all love that!
|
| 3. |
Most
designers have testimonials on their
sites. Check them out. Get references.
Does the testimonial link back to the site of the
person who wrote those great words? Check out their
site – that way you get to see the cover and
how it really looks and fits on their site.
|
| 4. |
When
you’re checking out who the designer has designed
for, also find out if that customer has bought any
other covers from the same designer. A repeat
customer is happy with their designer. |
| 5. |
Look
at the guarantee offered. Is it a guarantee
that makes sense to you? You really need to find a
guarantee that says something like ‘we will
create you a cover that you will be happy with or
you get your money back’. That way you know
that any cover designed can be fully refunded if you
don’t like it. Also if you don’t like
the cover, check out what the designer is prepared
to do to change it. Make sure that you NEVER need
to end up buying a cover you are not happy with.

| 6. |
Does
the designer make it easy for you to work with them?
Do your emails get returned? And do you get all your
questions answered? Check out their FAQ page –
this page is designed to answer a lot of your questions.
However, if you need further clarification is it easy
to email them?
|
| 7. |
Every
designer has their own style. Does this style reflect
your style? Do you like the designer’s work?
Will your customer will like the designers
style?
|
| 8. |
As
you are looking through the designer’s examples
– there should be great examples on their sites
– do their covers LEAP off the screen
and shout BUY ME. Because that’s what
you want. If they don’t, what makes you think
that the designer will be able to create a cover for
you that will do just that!
|
| 9. |
You’ve
got a deadline – what’s the turnaround
time. This is the time it will take the designer
to create your new ebook cover from the moment you
order it. If their turnaround time is too long, will
they negotiate with you to deliver you a cover earlier
than this? Will they meet your deadline?
If they do that means they are prepared to work with
you and want what’s best for you.

| 10. |
Can
you check out the order form before you buy? This
gives you great insight into the kinds of things you
need to be thinking about to get that great cover
created. Also it tells you whether the designer knows
what they are doing. Look to see if they want to find
out about your target market, what business you are
in and if they are interested in seeing your current
web site (if you have one). If they are asking these
questions then they clearly want to design you a cover
that fits your purpose and a cover that is intended
to SELL your product.
|
| 11. |
You’ve
got a BUDGET – who doesn’t! Can
you afford what the designer is charging?
Is there room for negotiation? If you require more
than one design you can expect that there would be
some room to negotiate. BUT a word of warning –
you get what you pay for – sometimes paying
the extra makes all the difference to the amount of
product you actually sell. You have to weigh this
up – ONLY YOU know your budget. |
| 12. |
I
know I said 11 reasons, but this one is too important
to leave out...
Does the designer create other graphics
that will support your cover. Things like a page header,
order button, background image, etc. |
